Making good men better
Freemasonry is the world’s oldest fraternal organization. A very high level explanation of what it stands for is “making good men better”. You will find in every Lodge brothers who believe in a supreme being and want to have a positive impact on society.
While it’s a requirement to believe in a supreme being, Freemasonry does not adhere to a specific religion. In fact, as a rule, we don’t speak of or debate religion in the lodge. Additionally, you don’t have to belong to a particular political party or platform to be a member. Again, as a rule, politics are not discussed in the lodge.

Becoming a Mason is much easier than you think. While the process is steeped in tradition, it is not as difficult or “mysterious” as one would believe. Not to over-simplify it, but all you need to do is just ‘ask’ to get the ball rolling.
The first step is to introduce yourself to members of the Lodge. If you know a current Mason, he can assist you with this. If not, feel free to email secy0075@pagrandlodge.org to come up with a time to meet. Typically, you can meet with the brothers at either a community event we are participating in or before a stated meeting on the first Saturday of the month.
Next, you will formally file a petition to be considered for membership. The petition is a form you will fill out with basic information about yourself. The petition must be signed by two active members who will vouch for your character.
Once the petition is submitted, the Lodge will send an Investigation Committee to meet with you, and if applicable, your spouse. This is an opportunity for the Lodge to learn more about you and your reasons for joining. It is also an opportunity for you to ask additional questions about the Lodge and Freemasonry as a whole.
The Investigation Committee will then report back to the Lodge and at the next Stated Meeting, a vote will take place to accept you as a candidate for initiation. If you’re accepted as a candidate, you will then be contacted for initiation into the first degree of three degrees.
After initiation, you will then go through a month of practice and education in between being raised to the second and then the third degree.
While it’s a simple process, it is a long one. Once you file your petition, it will take about 4 to 5 months to be raised to your third degree.
